Dance Classes

Street Dance is a freestyle dance, which incorporates other styles including Hip Hop, Breakdance and House. Our Street Dance Classes will introduce you to these core street styles, put them into practice with exciting choreography, and help you learn to improvise with confidence. Street Dance is also a great way to get the heart pumping and dance your way to fitness.

Classical Ballet is the basis for all types of dance. It develops posture, strength, body placement and proper dance technique. Savvy Studios follows the IDTA exam syllabus which is internationally recognised for its high standards however pupils do not need to take exams to attend the classes.

Lyrical dance is a style that combines ballet and jazz dancing techniques. It is performed to music with lyrics so that it inspires expression of strong emotions the choreographer feels from the lyrics of the song. This style concentrates on an individual approach and expressiveness of such emotions as love, joy, and anger. This form of dance focuses on the expressive nature of the performance and is therefore suitable for all levels and abilities.

Contemporary is a style of dance that stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet and can be performed to many different styles of music

Tap dance is perfect for both adults and children. It is an exciting style of dance where the dancer becomes a percussive musician with the use of specially designed tap shoes. The sound is made by shoes that have a metal “tap” on the heel and toe. Tap dance is a rhythmical and enjoyable way to keep fit!

Modern Jazz is a classical form of dance with a modern twist. One minute you may be dancing to the rhythm of a drum, the next to a funky jazz style.

It is fun style of dance which combines the techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. It incorporates unique moves, elaborate footwork, large leaps, rapid turns, and imaginative improvisation to bring an energetic and entertaining experience.

Acro is a challenging and exciting dance style where dancers blend musicality, emotional expression with acrobatic movements in a dance context. It is known by various other names including acrobatic dance and gymnastic dance, though it is most commonly referred to simply as Acro by dancers and dance professionals.

This style of dance is physically demanding and requires dancers to be trained in both dance and acrobatic skills. Acro movements include balancing, limbering, tumbling and partnering, using flexibility, contortion and strength.

A fundamental and key element of Acro is employing safe technique and this is at the heart of all classes taught at Savvy Studios. The classes include a great deal of strength and conditioning exercises along with stretching to allow the children to perform the skills effectively and safely.

Theatre Craft is a fun and exciting dance form primarily centred around theatrical performance. It is more about the performance and the dancers ability to interpret the music and tell a story on stage, for example Greece or West Side Story.

This style of dance is full to the brim with varied elements, including; Musical Theatre, Pantomime, Cabaret and Commercial Dance.

Essential elements of this dance style include kicks, turns, and rhythmic awareness – are all explored, whilst props and accessories are used to assist the styles.

It can be one of the most fun styles to study!
