Acro at Savvy Studios

Strength. Storytelling. Spectacle.

Acro is an exhilarating and physically demanding dance style that fuses the grace and technique of classical dance with the power, control and daring of acrobatic movement. Also known as acrobatic or gymnastic dance, it’s most commonly referred to as simply Acro within the dance world.

What makes Acro truly unique is its blend of artistry and athleticism. Dancers don’t just perform tricks, they tell stories through movement, using musicality, emotion and dynamic physical skills. Each performance is a breathtaking mix of balancing, limbering, tumbling, contortion and partnering, all executed with control and expression.

Because of the high level of skill involved, Acro requires committed training in both dance and acrobatics. At Savvy Studios, we put safety and technique at the heart of everything we do. Every class includes structured strength and conditioning, targeted stretching and flexibility training to build confidence, body awareness and resilience, all essential to a successful Acro journey.

Getting Started – The Importance of Accurate Grading

We’re thrilled your child is interested in joining one of our Acro classes! To make sure they get the best possible start, it’s essential they are placed in the correct grade for their current level of skill.

Why does this matter?

Each Acro grade builds on a specific set of foundational skills. Starting in the right class means your child can progress safely, confidently and feel a real sense of achievement as they master each stage. Placing a student too high or low can slow progress or increase the risk of injury, so getting it right matters.

What to do:

Please review the required skills for each Acro grade before booking your class. These will help you choose the most suitable level for your child’s abilities. Click on each grade below to view the skills needed for each grade:

Prerequisite: Age 4 and above

First Steps Acro is an introductory level designed specifically for our youngest students age 4 and above (not suitable for preschool children). It focuses on building confidence, coordination, spatial awareness and the very basics of acrobatic movement in a fun and nurturing environment.

This level lays the groundwork for safe physical development, encouraging body awareness, balance and simple strength exercises. Children learn through imaginative play, exploration and gentle skill progression appropriate for their age.

Prerequisite: Age 5 and above

Preparatory Acro introduces structured technique in key areas such as balance, flexibility, strength, locomotor skills and safe acrobatic movement. While still suitable for young learners, it begins to establish discipline and consistency in basic skills that will be essential for progression into Primary and beyond. Students are expected to demonstrate control and understanding of foundational movements as they work through a set checklist of required skills.
